Random Thought about my mom today (#4): Mom didnt drink, she didnt smoke, she didnt cuss*. She did go to church, she did pray, she did expect the same from her kids. We were latch key kids - often we would get into fights during those unsupervised hours - and sometimes we would call mom at work to tell. There are so many stories but they can all be summed up in the following generality: Me: I wanna watch something on TV Sibling: I wanna watch something else on TV All of us: me, no me, no me, blah blah blah, push, shove, fall onto table, lamp hits floor and breaks! Anyone of us: OHHHHHH - Im calling MOM! The REST of US: NOOOOOOOO!!!! DONT CALL MOM! LETS TRY TO FIX IT! Ring... Ring... Ring... Mom: Thank you for calling [Some company I dont remember], This is Geneva, how can I help you? Kid with phone: MOM! I was watching TV and [Sibling] changed the channel...[blah blah blah]... and they broke the lamp! Mom: You did WHAT? When you father gets home, you guys are in for a beatin Kid with phone: BUT MOM - it wasnt me! Mom: Put your sister on the phone! Oldest Sister: Mom, I wasnt even in the room... I was outside... yes the lamp is broken... I dont know... WHY? I WASNT EVEN IN THE ROOM... MOM, THATS NOT FAIR... BUT... MO... WHATEVER! Oldest sister hangs up phone... proceeds to beat the snot out of the rest of us... Dad gets home - sees lamp - gets belt and spanks all of us Mom gets home - sees lamp - goes on a twenty minute rant about how she cant have anything nice in this house which ends with (and this is my favorite part) DAMN IT - NOW YOUVE MADE ME CUSS!!! Mom storms off to bedroom, slams and locks door, Dad sends all of us to our room for the night.
