Random thoughts from the Land-Locked Mermaids Grotto. My grandparents and great grandparents didnt have tons of cash coming in. But they did keep chickens and had small gardens. Cash was used for housing. Families could produce much of their own food. Society is creating its own vicious cycle that keeps welfare moms and their children dependent on handouts of low quality foods high in carbs, sugars and fat. If city ordinances allowed and even encouraged people to become self-sufficient, the world would be a better place. Even a single mother of small children can tend her small garden while caring for her children. OUR GRANDMOTHERS DID IT AND SO CAN MODERN FAMILIES! Why do we keep people on welfare, paid to stay home and wait for that check, eating unhealthy foods that will make them become a medical burden on society? American society is not helping people help themselves. My polygamist great-grandmothers had maybe a 6th grade education but they provided for their families through work with their children by their sides...farming, ranching, gardening, raising a couple of milk cows, making cheese, raising chickens, selling eggs, milk and cheese for what cash they needed. THERE WAS NO WELFARE SYSTEM. But our modern cities are not conducive to people being able to fend for themselves. Instead we give people handouts instead of a hand up.
