Rangers fans plan war games at Ayr United clash RANGERS fans will turn up the heat on the Ibrox board – by holding more protests at Ayr on Sunday. Matthew Lindsay Matthew Lindsay Sports Journalist Friday 04/10/2013 0 Comments Share Print Gers fans who want the current directors removed staged demonstrations at the clash with Stenhousemuir at Ibrox last weekend. Calling themselves the “Sons of Struth”, they unfurled banners and chanted songs in the 18th and 72nd minutes – the Glasgow club was founded in 1872. Now they aim to ratchet up the clamour for change at Somerset Park. And they have vowed to stay on a war footing for the following game at Brechin on October 19. That could be the last game Ally McCoist’s side will play before what promises to be an explosive AGM which is scheduled for Thursday, October 24. But it emerged today Malcolm Murray and Paul Murray have launched a legal bid to have the meeting delayed so shareholders can vote on proposed directors. This comes after the league game with Dunfermline tomorrow week was postponed due to a number of Rangers players being away on international duty. Disgruntled supporters – led by the group calling itself after legendary manager Bill Struth – had planned to stage more demonstrations at the Pars match. But that opportunity has now gone due to Lewis Mac-leod, Arnold Peralta and Lee Wallace being unavailable. So they are set to take action again in the meeting with Ayr at Somerset Park – a game which will be screened live on Sky Sports – this Sunday. One protester told Sportimes: “With the Dunfermline game being called off we have decided to step it up a little bit at the Ayr United match. “We would have had the biggest impact by staging more protests at the Dunfermline game and we were planning a few things for that game. “But the away supporters can be more vocal than the home support at times. Hopefully we can get our point across once again in a game that will be well-attended by our fans.” The long-awaited publication of the Rangers accounts on Tuesday has not placated supporters behind the orchestrated “Sack the Board” campaign. The Sons of Struth are seeking to influence which way institutional investors vote at the AGM with their demonstrations. All directors, including chief executive Craig Mather, face re-election by club shareholders at the meeting – if it goes ahead. Meanwhile, Rangers issued a press release last night dismissing statements about bonuses and salaries at the Ibrox club made by former club chairman Malcolm Murray. The statement read: “The Board of Rangers Football Club are appalled and saddened at the current demeanour of Mr Malcolm Murray and the damage that he is causing to the Club and regard his behaviour as totally unbefitting a once respected practitioner in the City of London’s financial community.” eveningtimes.co.uk/rangers/u/rangers-fans-plan-war-games-at-ayr-united-clash.1380879500
