Rant about the Vietnam experience. I see soldiers being thanked for their service, wearing fatigues I public and generally being accepted like we (Nam vets) never were. I respect today’s GI’s immensely and am proud of what they do and put up with on a daily basis, that being the idiots in DC. The main reason Nam vets were disrespected is not the John Fing Kerry and his like (jane fonda, bill and hilary Clinton and so forth). It is the United States government that abandoned us in mid stream. The gutless congress that stopped funding of the war they started. Sent us “home” with no support, refused to recognize us as veterans and host of other ailments. The VFW and the American Legion that wouldn’t allow us into their circle. We were pot smoking baby killers. The government refused to back us in fact in a lot of cases, prosecuted us. Now the VFW and the Legion are begging for our support. The government is thanking US for our service and in general the country is kissing our asses. Why. Guilt that is why. 58,000 + were KILLED in Nam. They did not lie down and go to sleep, not to wake up. They in most case’s died violent, horrible deaths. Finding body parts to send home most times was a chore. (I know personally of what I speak) . To think that a catch phrase is going to change us is idiocy. There is no cure. Don’t thank me for my service. I didn’t do it for you. I did it for Jake and Bob and John and Gerry. And Jim who was blown away by a land mine. Their parents and loved ones were not allowed to grieve publicly for their loss. They had to do it in private lest protesters mobbed them. That can not be cured. Most of the parents are now gone never having been able to call their son or daughter a Hero. They were Hero’s despite the government a holes that set them to die and forgot them. Let’s never let this happen again. Keep voting them out until they get the message that we run this country, not them.
