Rant of the day: Life happens, shit happens and plans change. So here we go again for the THIRD time this year, I have signed up for a race Im likely not doing. OK Moscow Half- yeah I knew it was 50/50 and I might bite the bullet, but signed up because it was unclear as to whether Id get my documents done in time to LEAVE RUSSIA to make it to Riga before the marathon. If I was stuck in Moscow that weekend, I would have done it (or rather not since I was already deathly ill by then). I knew ppl who didnt sign up in time who wanted that number but I couldnt give it to them because the organizers dont let you transfer in another persons name. No, I will not allow someone else to run under my name-no effing way! Same damn thing happened with the Zelenograd Half. I knew in plenty of time I wasnt running-was sick as a dog. I also knew someone who really wanted to run who didnt sign up in time-tough shit to both parties. Now we have the Night Run on Saturday. I signed up thinking I was going to at most run the 50K 2 weeks prior. Usually, after 2 weeks my speed isnt super but its ok for a 10k ...HAD I RUN THE 50, but I did the 100-woops! I have enough experience to know that 2 weeks off a 100k there isnt a snowballs chance in hell Im going to run sub 40 in a 10k therefore I fail to see the point in doing this. Now I could see of these races were big prestigious ones like marathon majors or something, but they arent! Михаил Громов gives runners a window to transfer your number to a buddy if you need to, so at least one organizer understands that, hey, life happens! I wouldnt miss his races though unless I were out of town or dead :D The only races that get planned months in advance for me are 100k Worlds/Euros followed by the 50k and maybe an occasional marathon. Everything else is stepping stone racing to get there. So, damn, whatever happened to signing up on race day if you need to (even if it means dealing with a queue)???
