Rant time. The State government and local council have teamed up and will get studies done on what can be done to connect the north and south sides of Ingham during times of flood. These studies will cost $600,000. Sounds like a good idea, yes. In reality, its quite stupid, considering the study on raising Herbert St (councils preferred option) was already done when Main Roads looked at the idea when discussing flood proofing the highway (they ended up going for the bypass option because raising Herbert St was a near impossibility). What amazes me is that we are now going to blow $600,000 on another study. Surely common sense could prevail here and that money could be spent an actually building a bridge over Palm Ck near the high school (if anyone thinks raising Herbert St is a viable, cheaper option they have rocks in their head). Ive made this point once before, and its even on the record from the mayor, that the only reason they are pushing for Herbert St to be raised is because its not a council road, therefore, not a cost to them. In other words, buck passing. A bridge over Palm Ck has been on the locals wish list for over 20 years. Surely with an election comming up the state government could make it an election commitment instead of pissing money away with studies and other bullshit, how about they actually build the thing and be done with it! Thats my rant done for the month now...
