Rape: Court adjourns case against pastor to September 24. The pastor is accused of raping his 14-year-old church member. An Abuja High Court on Wednesday adjourned the case against Basil Princewill, a pastor, charged with raping a 14- year-old girl and a worshipper in his church. Justice Husseini Baba- Yusuf of Abuja High Court adjourned the matter to September 24 for continuation of hearing. At the resumed sitting, the prosecuting counsel, Serah Sanni, holding brief for Simon Lough, made an oral application for an adjournment on the ground that the counsel handling the matter was absent. He said that the counsel was attending a conference of all senior prosecutors at the Ministry of Justice. He added that the second prosecution witness, who was the victim, was currently writing her examination. Nnanna Ewa, counsel to the accused, opposed the application, saying that the prosecution counsel could have provided other witnesses. According to him, there is nothing before the court to show that he is attending any conference. “This is a court and not a classroom and the prosecutor was not ready but wanted to delay the court proceeding,’’ he said. Justice Baba-Yusuf granted the prosecutor’s application and adjourned the case. The accused was arrested by the police in Nyanya, following allegations by some members of his church that he raped and molested some young female members. Mr. Princewill is the General Overseer of Mountain Movers Fire Ministries International located in Nyanya, Abuja. -PREMIUM TIMES
