Raquel Wildes (our Director of Outreach) spent her spring break in - TopicsExpress

Raquel Wildes (our Director of Outreach) spent her spring break in Nicaragua as a Global Justice Fellow with American Jewish World Service (AJWS), an international Human Rights organization. While there, Raquel met with NGOs to learn from grassroots organizers attempting to combat an array of gender-based issues, often without the help of local, municipal, and federal forces. Inspired and empowered by their stories, Raquel will continue to work with AJWS to lobby politicians in favor of passing the International Violence Against Womens Act (IVAWA). This law will codify a position within the American government to specifically focus on violence against women and girls abroad, setting the precedent that this behavior will no longer be tolerated. IVAWA will also create a framework for programming and grant work within selected developing nations which have ongoing gender based violence issues such as domestic violence, LGBT inequalities, and high rates of femicide. We are so excited to see what Raquels determination and passion can do to triumph this cause. Her commitment to service and empowerment is inspiration for all of us. While most of us were sleeping, nomming, or relaxing with Netflix, she was working hard to better the lives of others.
