Rare birds spotted in Madayippara KANNUR: The bird watchers spotted some rare migratory birds in the north Malabar region during a survey recently. These include the Caspian plover, a migratory bird that breeds at north-western Asia and migrates towards Africa, and also the pectoral sandpiper, a small, migratory wader. While it is for the first time the Caspian plover was sighted in Kerala, there was no prior instance of spotting pectoral sandpiper in the entire south India and prior to this, there is only a single record of sighting of this bird in India, at Punjab, said eminent bird watcher Khaleel Chovva, who was part of a team that conducted the survey in the Madayippara locality. timesofindia.indiatimes/home/environment/flora-fauna/Rare-birds-spotted-in-Madayippara/articleshow/22978335.cms
