Rarely are we disappointed with the guest artist at Low Moor Club, - TopicsExpress

Rarely are we disappointed with the guest artist at Low Moor Club, and last night was no exception. In fact, Paul had really bulled him up, and not without reason. Lee Lambert was everything we expected and much more. Thank goodness I’m not an entertainer today. I wouldn’t want to compete with the likes of Lee. This young man has it all, youth, talent, a great voice, and sheer exuberance by the bucketful. Dressed in skin tight jeggings, dark T shirt, mid blue jacket, and white winkle picker shoes that almost knocked over the wine glasses on the front row tables. He claimed that he had bought them for a fiver £5 in Morley, but we all knew he’d borrowed them from paul. After starting with a classic Dusty Springfield number, he continued with Gary Barlow’s “Let me go”. Then, after introducing himself, he did the George Benson song, “Give me the night”, before singing one of the songs that I will always associate with Lynn day, “The Rose” although I must say that Lee’s backing track was the best version I have ever heard around the clubs, and he did an equally superb job. And then, as though he was reading my mind, he continued with Fairground Attraction’s “Perfect”. Now I’m beaten, he asked if anyone liked*****,the club went silent and blank. It sounded like “Davichi” and maybe it was, but the only group with that name is a Korean one. Whatever it was, the song and sound was good, but I admit I have never heard it before. Makes me feel old when I can’t recognise a new song, Thank goodness he continued with “Walking on sunshine” by Katrina & the Waves. Lee closed his set with the fabulously powerful “The impossible dream” from Man of La Mancha, to rapturous applause, before his encore Frankie Vali & the 4 seasons, “Oh what a night. In short, his whole set showed a very polished and superbly talented, confident young entertainer. As Val said, “I would go see him anytime. After the supper of delicious assorted sandwiches (always super fresh) the unenviable job of following Lee Lambert was handed to an even younger incredible entertainer Bradley Johnson singing a song that is synonymous in my mind with Anthony Delmoro, “The man who can’t be moved”, by The Script.Bradley’s version was simply spot on, excellent. Keeping to the young theme, the next singer, who we hadn’t seen for quite a while, was Abbie. She just gets better, and proved it by singing the Queen song, “Somebody to love”. Not the easiest of songs, but she did an amazing job. These two are maturing into really great singers. Paul gave the poison chalice of following the young ones, to Chris Dobson. It’s as well that Chris is so darn good. Following their success at the Top House, he asked Marlane Radcliffe to duet with him. As before, they sang the Smokie song “Mexican girl”. Yet again, it surprised me just how tight and in harmony they are. Terrific you two. Next came Mary Daly looking more glamorous than she has for years. We suspect that her daughter and daughter-in-law had been working on her. Her make-up and hair was great, and it seemed to have an effect on her singing. She did a terrific version of “No regrets” and received well earned loud applause. Don’t know if it was the young ones, or her new glamour, but her diction and phrasing was bang on the money. Marty Valentine followed with one of my favourites, the beautiful ballad by The Beatles “There are places I remember”. Virtually anything from The Beatles, and you are in my good books Marty, and very well sung. Tony Fawthrop came next, and we waited for Paul to mess around with the sound effects, but it didn’t happen. Tony sang a flawless version of Dr Hook’s “More like the movies”. Later came back Marlane, and she returned the compliment by inviting Chris Dee to duet with her. They sang the Bryan Adams & Mel C song “When you’re gone” just as well as their other duet, a natural pairing. The evening was brought to a close with yet another duet, but this time it was Paul and Chris, obviously not as attractive as Marlane, but passable LOL Before signing off, I must have another gripe about the quiz. We lost by 1 point, and not for the first time, but the team that beat us, went back in the extra time given by the quiz master, and changed at least one of their answers. Why he has to give 10 minutes at the end baffles me. This allows any unscrupulous players time to go outside or the toilets to use their phones. I would be the last person to say that they actually do this…like hell I am.
