Ray Rice took a huge step towards public redemption today by speaking directly and ignoring the notes that someone had prepared for him. There will be those wholl never forgive him and others who will, but the most important thing is he took full blame for what happened. He also apologized in a heartfelt manner to his wife and family, as well as the Ravens organization and society as a whole. That doesnt take the NFL or its Commissioner off the hook for a meager punishment, and it also for many doesnt balance out the fact he was able to enter a pre-trial diversion program. Rice will ultimately not suffer any imprisonment, and not even have it on his record. The next step is for the NFL to fully address the issue of domestic violence within its code of conduct, and do it in such a manner that when future incidents occur, there wont be the perception that the league cares more about marijuana smoking and people being hit with the crown of the helmet than domestic abuse and violence against women.
