Raymond Fortun DONT LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN Theres nothing wrong with amending the Constitution if the intentions for doing so are pure. I myself want some of the economic provisions amended because they hamper the influx of foreign capital to the country. If the ruling party wants to change the term limits of president and make it PROSPECTIVE in effect, i.e., hindi makikinabang yung nakaupo, then MAYBE it can be said that the intention was for the good of all. But changing the Constitution so that THEY will benefit from it? It would be difficult to believe that they had only the best interests of the Filipino people in mind. Im sure a lot of you have heard the video clips of my idol, Pres. Cory Aquino opposing attempts by FVR and GMA to extend their terms. Lo and Behold, even PNoy was in those rallies. If PNoy SUPPORTED her mothers advocacy NOT to amend the Constitution when it comes to term extensions, why the sudden change of heart now? Im sure the open-minded are intelligent enough to figure out why. Para ituloy ang magagandang programa na naumpisahan? Surely, we dont expect them to say gusto pa namin maghari-harian for another 6 years, right? That 6 year term, no reelection provision was placed there because this country already HAS a sordid history under a dictatorship. People getting picked up in the dead of night and never seen again; properties seized and never returned; press freedom being stifled, with the truth being sacrificed; families fleeing the country from oppression, the horror stories go on and on. No, we should never experience that again. I am not saying that the current president will do that, but what about the next president? Do we change the Constitution again just to suit whoever is in power? Why dont we give it a chance, you say? People, the Constitution is all about stability; we cannot keep changing it on a whim, like any other law. If you love your country, DO NOT LET ANOTHER PRESIDENT SERVE FOR MORE THAN 6 YEARS.
