Rays funeral is today - I went to the visitation last night- not able to make it today - Louisbourg will never be quite the same Ray was a fixture I was always happy to see him. Raymond Johnson Born In: Northern Bay Nfld. Passed on: June 25th, 2014 It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of Ray Johnson, on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 due to a motor vehicle accident. Born in Northern Bay, Nfld., he was the son of the late Leo and Bridgette Johnson. Ray was the oldest of five children. Ray came to Louisbourg in 1972 as a Parks Canada employee, where he raised a family and remained a lifelong resident of the community. Ray was a former engineer and businessman, he was a lifelong member of the engineers association and a new member to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 62, Louisbourg. Ray loved to help others and considered his good friends as his own family. Ray was a loyal supporter of the Liberal party, he enjoyed spending time at the wharf with his many friends. He was a very intelligent man who helped many people and groups with their bookkeeping and documents. Ray was a special part of our lives, well known, loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by daughters, Diane (Raymond) Barter, Maureen (Mike) Jevning; sons, Michael (Michelle) Johnson and Peter (Shannon) Johnson; grandchildren, Shannon, Amy, Taylor, Ty, Kyra, Reese and Rylan and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Charley. Ray is also survived by his brothers, Morgan and Justin; sisters, Kay and Margaret; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion 62, Louisbourg. Visitation will be held at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Monday, June 30, from 2-4 and 7-9 and Tuesday, July 1, from 2-4 p.m., with a funeral service to be held 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 1 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant. Interment to follow in Willow Grove Cemetery with a legion service. A reception will take place at the Branch 12 Legion, Louisbourg.
