Re: Officer Involved Shooting On 13 December 2014 at about 9:30 PM a Tipton County Sheriff’s Office Investigator was behind two vehicles at the red light located at McLaughlin Road and Highway 51 S in Munford, when the driver of one vehicle exited the vehicle and began shooting toward the parking lot of McDonald’s. The investigator exited his unmarked police unit and identified himself. The armed subject turned the weapon on the investigator who returned fire. A second armed subject then exited the vehicle. Both subjects then fled on foot north from the intersection. The investigator was not injuried in the shooting. The area was saturated to locate the subjects and process the crime scene. Deputies then located a shooting victim from the McDonald’s parking lot at Baptist Memorial Hospital emergency room. Deputies located the second vehicle involved in the incident traveling north on Highway 51 south of Woodlawn Drive in Brighton believed to be involved in the incident. Deputies determined that one of the occupants of the vehicle had been shot. The subject was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital Tipton by ambulance with non life threatening injuries. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct an independent investigation of the officer involved shooting. The Munford Police Department assisted at the scene along with Sheriff’s Office detectives. As protocol for the Sheriff’s Office, the investigator has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation. “The investigation is in the early stages but we believe there will be witnesses in the area of the incident who may have vital information in the case.
