Re-post for my son Michael; First one was the moon for the Apollo 11, June 20, 1969 2nd taken by Hubble 2008 leaked out of the SPT (South Pole Telescope) 3rd, Feb.2, 2014 quarter moon taken by me at Sage and Sand. This months Quarter moon, November, 2014. 4th is the only way I ever remember a quarter moon to look like it is July 2001. Last one is August 14th, 2013 That was the month a year ago August I was screaming the moon moved at least 20 degrees to the North. I bet I watch every full moon rise, kind of a religion A full moon normally rises if you were driving down Thunderbird what would be about 30 to the south of T-Bird, right over the solar panel plant out here. Always there. July 2013 it rose where Bell road is if you were driving down Thunderbird. By September The full moon rose where Peoria Rd would be if you were driving down Thunderbird. You can find info on-line with a Google search that the moon shifted 42 degrees in 26 days in the summer of 2013, 22 degrees to the north, (My guess was 20) and then in 13 days moved back to its norm, and then kept sliding 20 degrees to the south farther to equal the 42 degree shift. Since it never rises in the same location from month to month. Phoenix is easy with the grid roads, you need nothing more. Look where the Sea of Tranquility is as the quarter moons will allow you to see it rotate like a dial. This April, I was looking at the Nimbus moon, and the small peppered craters had rolled to the front side and took up 1/3 of the right side, more on the bottom half. Good topic to chat, easy to watch from month to month. With your scope, take note of landmarks on the moon from left to right and top to bottom that are easy for you to remember from night to night, I drew simple pics!
