Re the new ATA Hypothyroidism Guidelines, people are asking: What can we do? In the short term, you can: 1. Leave your review and comments at the ATA Facebook page https://facebook/ThyroidAssociation/timeline 2. Write to the ATA by email at [email protected] The President is Hossein Gharib, M.D. Or better yet, put it in a hard copy... Send a fax to 703 998-8893 (Dont have a fax? Try faxzero/ myfax/free/ gotfreefax/ and https://hellofax/ for free online services You can also send them old fashioned snail mail: at Hossein Gharib, MD American Thyroid Association 6066 Leesburg Pike, Suite 550 Falls Church, Virginia 22041 3. If you have an endocrinologist who is a partner in your care, and is willing to prescribe whatever thyroid medication can safely help you, please share information regarding the Guidelines, and urge your doctor to take action with the ATA As far as lawsuits, they require a very high degree of commitment, a very substantial amount of financial support to organize, and many many volunteer resources. If anyone in our group is a class action attorney who wants to tackle the huge task of putting together a class/case and file a lawsuit, that would be ideal. But otherwise, Im not sure who has the financial support, expertise, and time to tackle the full-time+ job of researching law firms, contacting them, and attempting to put together a lawsuit, etc. (And sorry, I wish I could do this, but I cant. Im stretched to the max as it is, and cant take on spearheading a lawsuit.) Ill be speaking with some integrative doctors who are concerned with this issue, exploring other ideas that may help counteract the negative impact of these Guidelines. I invite and welcome creative/realistic ideas from all our group members. (But please, lets avoid the You do it comments that say: Mary, YOU need to file a lawsuit/YOU need to contact the President/YOU need to get on Dr. Oz/TV/etc. and tell people about this, etc. ;-) )
