Reactive Attachment Disorder is typically diagnosed in children - TopicsExpress

Reactive Attachment Disorder is typically diagnosed in children around age five, but signs can present around the first birthday. The disorder is characterized by a disjoint in emotional and behavioral attachment in a child. Symptoms or signs include: feeding difficulties, weight gain issues, detached or unresponsive behavior, difficulty being comforted, inhibition in social situations, or inappropriate familiarity with strangers. Children with the disorder usually come from neglectful or abusive situations, either from home or a separate social institution, which can cause significant trauma. Those who believe a child may have RAD should seek a comprehensive psychological assessment, and treatment is complex but manageable.
