Read: Galatians 1:6-12; Luke 10:25-37 Fashions change and so does the dominant cultural attitude of people. Just now we are very much caught up in the cult of the celebrity. Celebrities are used to influence what we buy, they are cultivated by politicians to give credence to their point of view. Even religion is ready to hold up celebrities to back up its message. But these are shaky foundations, the only real foundation is Christ and his message does not change as Paul tells us. It does not change because it is truth, even when it is not popular. So we might argue, as does the lawyer in the Gospel, that the truth is not simple, there are so many different questions, so many different problems that life throws up for us that it is almost wrong to say that we can know what is right to do in every situation. We can be almost morally paralysed by the different moral arguments of what is right and wrong. But Christ goes to the heart of the matter and insists that love does not know any boundaries. We are not excused from loving someone because they think differently from us or act differently from us. We must beware lest in getting caught up in discussion about what is right and what is wrong, we lose sight of what is asked of us in love of God and of our neighbour.
