Read Isaiah 2:1-5 Recently my friend Sue and I took a bus trip to Branson Wasn’t sure I had enough sequins for our destination but I purchased a few while I was there. I used to take the Greyhound Bus to California and New Mexico for mission work. Rode with the youth to ski trips at Winter Park. We took a sleeper bus one year. I decided if hell was anywhere near the torment of a sleeper bus I would be good forevermore! But this was my first trip with a group and a tour guide. The schedule was packed tight. Seven musical shows in 2.5 days. Fifty-three of us could unload at a convenience store, “powder our noses”, and return to our bus seats in 15 minutes. I was impressed. The only one I knew on this trip was Sue. Being the shy person I am I wondered what it would be like to be a part of such a diverse group. We came from California to Indiana, with seemingly very little in common. Strangely enough, however, after four days together we became close -- almost like family. I’ve heard of such a thing happening on cruises and other tours’. There must be something about being on the journey together -- rubbing elbows -- breaking bread together. We are often better people because of it. The prophet Isaiah proclaimed “O house of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord!” Ponder this . . . what if we, as Christians, envisioned ourselves on a journey together with all of our brothers and sisters in Christ? Think of Christian friends in other states and countries. Imagine walking together along the road of Advent -- of life itself. Don’t you think we might become closer? We might recognize that we are family. Let’s start this second week of Advent by taking a trip together with the people of our church or Sunday School Class or Youth Group. Let’s watch out for one another. Share with each other. Take turns being first in line -- and last. Breaking bread together. Being God’s children -- being family. I think it would make God happy. I think it would be a wonderful gift for Baby Jesus. Sing “They Will Know We Are Christians By Our Love”
