Read & Share if You Care A letter from Sami of Gaza: I am a Palestinian boy that happens to live in Gaza since I was born about 10 years ago. My name is Sami and my best friend is Yousuf. We used to play on the beach of Gaza when the Israelis do not shoot. Yousef is one year older than I but I am faster than him. Yusuf is the best football player in our team. He scores many goals and make us win. My elder brother was a very good player too. He used to play with George (the brother of Yusuf) but he is not with us anymore after the 2012 war. I have so far lived 3 wars unlike my brother Eisa who only lived 2 wars. George tells me how much he loved my brother and ask me to push his wheel chair to take him to places where they used to hang out. George loves to watch us play football. Sometimes I notice his red eyes and sparkling tears (Mom asked me to pretend I see nothing). I tell my mother that I want to be a fire fighter but she wants me to be a doctor or an engineer. I once saw firefighters putting off a fire that was caused by Zannana (my father told me it is a small plane with no pilot that shoots rockets on cars and homes). I remember one time when the fire burnt a small shop that we used to buy candy from (the owner who returned from the US called it 711). The main reason I insisted on becoming a fire fighter is when I saw them digging the rubbles to save a little girl named Aisha, everyone was happy though her mom and one of her brothers died. Aisha is still a baby. She is only 4 years old My father is a teacher with the UNRWA. He teaches English and everyone respects him. He pushes me a bit hard to learn and encourages me to read books and watch documentary films. He was proud of my brother Eisa and his schools grades. He was saving to send him to the American University in Cairo My eldest sister Sara is in her 11th grade. She wants to be a journalist and sometimes uses my fathers phone to record her coverage. I laugh a lot because she has a very strong tone (I told her the audience would run away if she keeps shouting like that). I know she loves me very much even when she calls me Naughty Sam My mother took me yesterday to offer condolence to George and Yusuf family. Their aunt was killed in the F16 bombing. They took her to the hospital but she was already dead before they made it. George told me that over 40 people participated in her burial ceremony. Some of them are taking refuge in the church My father asked me a weird question: if we survive this war, what do you think will happen in the coming years? I first thought: how can I know, but then, I realized what my father meant I said: Dad, though of thousands kids were killed, thousands of homes were destroyed, thousands are injured, I am still hopeful that our life will change to better. My Dad laughed and said: I know you are smarter than saying this, our life cannot get worse! What makes you hopeful? I bowed my head and almost shouted: the world will not remain silent. Humanity will prevail … Justice will prevail Do you think I gave the wrong answer??? By the way, our home was destroyed but we were not inside it … we now live in a school and pray to God that Israelis do not bomb it
