Read an Aussie Comic. Week: 1 Tristan Jones correctly called - TopicsExpress

Read an Aussie Comic. Week: 1 Tristan Jones correctly called the Aussie comics scene a puddle compared to that of other countries. It’s a hard truth to swallow, but a truth none the less. Japan would produce more comics in a week than we would in a year. So, to counter that a little, and slowly add a few drips to the puddle and hopefully one day make it into something the size of a toddler’s backyard pool, I’m going to do my bit to promote a different title each week. And, while I mentioned comics, I won’t be sticking to that medium specifically. In fact, for my first week, I have chosen the novel, Hammered: Memoir of an Addict by Geoff Brown. The reason I have chosen this work is that it was a conversation I’d had with Geoff and others about authors promoting the works of others, esp those people who cringe at the thought of self-promotion and whose works will miss out on an audience as a result of this. But I will also promote works which I simply like, no matter their current level of success. I have been lucky enough to have had many websites, podcasts and fans promote my work. So I’m not doing this seeking reciprocation. I am doing this because I want to see our scene grow. If youd like to do the same, please go right ahead. HAMMERED Instead of writing a new take on the book (as I am at work, and sort of need to get on with the job I’m paid to do), here’s a review of wrote of the work I wrote on Goodreads: “Harrowing, brutal, honest and heartbreaking, this is a raw account of one mans battle against his demons aided by any drug he could get his hand on. The writing is economical while being anything but dry, and it sets a cracking pace that your eyes struggle to keep up with. Each chapter makes you feel like Mike Tyson’s punching bag. I actually put aside another book I was very much enjoying because I simply had to know more of this confronting journey. I believe thats the biggest compliment I can give any work. ‘Hammered’ should be required reading in every single school on the planet as both a character study and the best anti-drug campaign you could hope for.” Grab it here: amazon.au/Hammered-Memoir-Addict-G-N-Braun-ebook/dp/B007F2851W/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1406589533&sr=1-1&keywords=hammered+memoirs+of+an+addict
