Read in the New York Times: The National Book Award judges (including, this year, Professor Charles Baxter for fiction) pick the winners on the day of the award ceremony (yesterday, in this case) during a decadent lunch at a restaurant of their choice. Nice! Of course the fiction judges had to read (at least parts of) 400 books this year, which probably makes a person look forward to a good lunch. Glad the winning James McBride novel was already on our reserve list at the library. . .
