Read your Bible Lang with us today: Genesis 4-6 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you. (Genesis 6:18 ESV) As you read the Flood narrative there are two things to consider. The first, is that Gods judgement, though severe, was just. Instead of filling the earth with Gods glory, men and women filled the earth with violence. And yet, the verse above reminds us that god had incredible mercy. Log that word covenant away. Youre going to see it a lot. Matthew 2 And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. (Matthew 2:11 ESV) While this passage of Matthews gospel tells us of the birth of Christ, we also begin to see signs of his death. The gift of myrrh from the Magi foreshadows that fact that Jesus must die. The only other time we see myrrh in this gospel is at Jesus anointing at Bethany (Matthew 26:6-13). Matthew makes sure we understand the purpose of Jesus birth. He has come to lose his life. Take a moment and thank Jesus for giving up his life, so that you and I made find abundant life in him.
