Reader Contribution - OVERTAKING (dual carriageway) a moving vehicle - BASICS only! 1) Indicate your intentions 2) Check rear and side mirror AND Blind spot to make sure your not being also overtaken, and again side and rear - repeat as required till you actually start to over take. 3) When safe to do so - commence overtaking - LEAVE INDICATORS ON - till you start pulling back in (as in point 5 below) - This is important for oncoming vehicles to realise that are either turning or diverging - hence indication and NOT traveling in a multi lane towards them. 4) On country roads - I also do a VERY quick flash of my high beam to wake them up and let them know I am overtaking them - works for me. 5) When safely in front of vehicle being overtaken - indicate left, check rear and side and CLEAR BLIND SPOT TO LEFT and make sure the vehicle is far enough safe behind you and merge back into your side of road. 6) Things to look out for - ONCOMING vehicles with no lights, pulling back in to your side with UNSAFE distance to the vehicle behind you that you just passed, making sue there is room for you to overtake and pull back in - in front front of vehicle you have overtaken, opportunity for you to abandon the over taking and pull back in safely to where you started from AND MUCH MORE 7) These are tips from an every day driver and NOT a professional - always consult a professional and follow their advise.
