Reader Mail (Seinfeld): Briefly, I just finished reading your article in The S.F. Chronicle entitled, Seinfeld Bad Joke. Overall, I believe that you are missing the primary reason why Seinfeld has failed to open his door (wider) to embrace other comedians of color? Simply put, Intimidation. Yes, it is significantly more powerful than race. After a certain degree, the color of someone skin is generally not a primary factor with regards to many influential, famous and/or wealthy individuals but intiimidation and insecurity can pose a powerful and mighty threat. When reading your article, I thought of some of the performances that I have had an opportunity to attend/view such as Richard Pryor, George Lopez and other respective comedians that were mentioned in your article. Could you just imagine Jerry Seinfeld being actually paired with one of them?? If it was Richard Pryor, I can only imagine Richard stating to Jerry while he is politely driving his vehicle, What are you doing??........Do you call this driving?? Let me show how we drive in South Central (L.A). Before long, Jerry would be out of the drivers seat, left standing on the curb with dust in his face, repeatedly asking his crew, What just happened?? Totally outdone by Richard Pryor!! Needless to say, Richard would have stole Jerrys show. Overall, I believe Jerry Seinfeld contiunes to pair himself with other comedians who does not exceed his grasp. Remember, hes doing a controllable dance with the folks he select and they know it. However, if he chose some of the minority comedians that you respectively mentioned, he would just look awkward (i.e. like dancing with two left feet) And of course, he would not want that to happen. Nevertheless, I enjoyed your article!!
