Reader question: I was wondering if you and/or your readers could help me with a quandary Im facing more and more these days. I live in a fairly affluent area, where most women have husbands with higher earning salaries or are two in-come families, however my husband and I are pasting together his mostly-full time job as a freelancer and my barely part-time job which covers health insurance so that one of us is always at home. Right now Im beginning to get the invitations to direct-sales parties, moms nights out, girls weekends, etc., and Im thinking they arent going to stop any time soon. What have you found is the kindest, most appropriate, and clearest way to respond with something to the extent of While Id love to spend time with you, I cant afford this party/night out/weekend, etc? Im running out of convenient excuses, and I want my friends to know Im not just avoiding them, but just being budget conscious. However I also dont want to come across as poor.... does this make sense? Any advice?
