Reading about this fills me with a deep sadness that I cant - TopicsExpress

Reading about this fills me with a deep sadness that I cant describe. Its only my first year stepping out of the Singapore education system and really opening my eyes to everything thats happening around me - and it has already made me feel jaded and disheartened. Ive always thought that weve made some sort of progress, but this continual clamping down on alternative voices, dictating of what social norms are (remember the NLB saga that happened not too long ago?), the Gs increasing paranoia of losing power, seems as though there has been a regression instead. You say that the individuals in the film have given distorted and untruthful accounts of how they left Singapore and claimed that they were unfairly denied their right to return to Singapore, but how do we know that YOU are telling the truth? Let us judge for ourselves. Your assumption that we are going to take whatever you say as the truth is ridiculous. In my past twelve years of education, Ive only ever learnt your version of the truth in my social studies textbook, history textbook, GP notes; it has always been a one-sided case. Is that not good enough for you? I feel so strongly about this because god, Singapore I love you and I care, but this is too much.
