Reading between the lines of political speeches…President Obama - TopicsExpress

Reading between the lines of political speeches…President Obama is in traveling salesman mode, on the road to peddle his economic plans or Obamacare or mortgage reform. It’s easy to get swept up in the sales pitch and find yourself signing up for things you’ll feel buyer’s remorse for later. That’s why with any politician’s promises, it’s important to ask, “Is this really true? Does it even make sense?” For example, when Obama touts his success at fighting al-Qaeda by noting that more Americans now die in car crashes than in terrorist attacks, ask yourself: When has that ever NOT been true? Even in the year of 9/11, 14 times more people died in car accidents. Or when you hear that all Obamacare means is that if you don’t have insurance, you’ll be able to buy it, doesn’t that really mean, “you’ll be FORCED to buy it”? Scientists recently invented a device that can print the Mona Lisa just one-third the width of a human hair. Remember, most government promises come with fine print that was probably printed with that.
