Reading has always been a huge part of my life, ever since I learned how to, you can always find me with a book on tow or with my tablet nowadays. Accepting Thais Martinez challenge of listing my 10 favorite books, here it is: Runner-ups: I. The Hunger Games - the Lord of the Flies of the 21st century. Gotta love a good dystopia. II. Eragon series - the tales of the last dragon riders are amazing. The fights are greatly depicted. Although the second book is rather slow, the third is absolutely brilliant. 10. The Shining/Doctor Sleep - The story of Daniel Torrance a kid born with the shining: the ability to see the dead, telepathy, telekinesis and so much more. With a drunk struggling father who adores him but hurts him at the same time. Looking for a new beginning his father takes the family to he lands a job as the caretaker for the Overlook hotel. Bad things had happened at that hotel over the years not a good place for a kid who can see dead people. After everything Danny lived in The Shining we meet him again a year later in Doctor Sleep and see him grow up from there. 9. Harry Potter Series/Percy Jackson 1st series - Love both this sagas. They tell the story of ordinary kids who have hidden pasts, secrets and legacies. And how a whole secret world and society can exists right around the corner without us noticing. Brilliant! Harry Potter as you all know by now is a wizard and needs to go to a Wizarding School to learn how to best use his powers for the good of all. Hes also the only one to survive an attach by the darkest wizard of all time. He and his friends solve a mystery each book a la hardy boys while uncovering Harrys past and why hes so damn important. Percy Jackson is a demigod, the son of Poseidon and a mortal. Hes not alone the gods, remain well the gods, having kids around with mortals and leaving them behind. These kids end up in a summer camp aptly named Camp Half-Blood. Each year the oracle gives them a prophecy part of a larger one, with a quest to save the world from the Titans. 8. Children of Dune - The third book of the original Dune series of Six. Enters Leto II the best character of the series in my opinion. The choices made in the previous books are re-evaluated. Even who was the Kwisatz Haderach after all. Its an amazing book. 7. When the wind blows/The Lake House - Before he wrote Maximum Ride, Patterson wrote this wonderful tale of human-bird hybrid children and the people who freed them from their captors. 6. The Forever King - At the end of T.H. White Once and Future King a promise was made, King Arthur will be given a second chance to finish his task of uniting the world. Well he gets this chance in the year 2000. Arthur reincarnates in Arthur Blessing a 10 year old boy from Chicago. He gets into a whole lot of trouble as the holy grail ends up in his hands with an ancient evil looking up for it. Luckily Galahad is back too. It has too sequels. 5. A princess of Mars - The kickoff of the Barsoom (Mars) adventures with confederate veteran and overall sample of what it meant to be a Civil War Era gentleman John Carter. The lower gravity of Mars gives him great strenght and the ability to jump great distances. He meets a princess who needs no rescue and gets one of the most loyal and fun pets in sci fi history Woola. Note: It was written in 1917 it was the inspiration for Superman and so many other comics and Sci Fi heroes. 4. LOTR The Two Towers - What is it with me and the second book of every trilogy beats me, but the second one is my favorite LOTR book. Maybe is because of the return of Gandalf or the introduction of Rohan. Or the Batlle of Helms Deep. 3. The Illiad - the telling of the war of Troy from Homer its quite the fun ride the meddling of the gods, the heroes Hector and Aquiles, the beautiful Helen of Troy. 2. Dune - Bless the maker and his water, bless the coming and the going of him, make his passage cleanse the world... genetic manipulation to create a Messiah in a world consumed by the spice, whats? the spice? for that you would have to go to Arrakis the desert planet and perhaps the most intriguing place in the whole universe. Dune is a brilliant sci fi book that inspire most of the lore of our favorite sci fi movies. 1. The Golden Compass - Although my favorite character of the His Dark Materials trilogy does not make an appearance till the 2nd book, I love how Pullman introduces Lyras world on the 1st one. A world dominated by the a corrupted church. Where our souls are outside our bodies. And consciousness is sleeping away. Do yourselves a favor and skip the awful movie. I hereby challenge Stephanie Castillo de Quintero, Arquimedes Quintero II and Nerys De Icaza what are your favorite books you guys?
