Reading the excellent Ian MacWhirter in this morning’s Sunday - TopicsExpress

Reading the excellent Ian MacWhirter in this morning’s Sunday Herald, the thought returned to me about my incredulity over these referendum polls. He writes: “Scotland has moved towards self-government over 25 years, not by taking to the streets but by using the ballot box peacefully, incrementally, tactically. First, it eliminated Tory MPs in 1997; then it voted by a margin of three to one [my emphasis] to establish a parliament with tax raising powers; and then, appalled by the poor quality of Labour administration, Scottish voters handed a landslide majority to the SNP in 2011, ensuring that this referendum ... will take place.” All in all, considering the last 17 years in particular, MacWhirter sums up well the wishes of most Scots over that time. So, putting his words in context, I ask, how can these polls be so close?
