Reading the media accounts of Julia Gillards memoir My Story youd think it was all about Kevin Rudd. Having read all 504 pages I can assure my FB friends that it is not. It is a fascinating and considered reflection on her government. I found the chapter on how she put together her parliamentary majority especially fascinating (and Kevin Rudd certainly does not feature in that). She is startlingly frank in places (about people and about processes) and also - so rare in a politician - to admit to having been wrong and to wishing she had done some things differently. I think it is a book with out precedent in its depth and frankness in Australian politician writing.
