Reading the most recent Mathematics Association of NSW - TopicsExpress

Reading the most recent Mathematics Association of NSW publication, all my suspicions that the NSW Board of Studies is run by a team that would prefer to see Mathematics in schools diminished to simple stats and building blocks is confirmed. The frustration among senior maths teachers is palpable. The NSW universities (an increasingly loosely applied tern) are equally culpable in dropping the prerequisite study of higher maths for courses that require it. Clearly it is more profitable for them to offer bridging courses (at about $6000 a pop) to students who have the ATAR but not the skill. Is the NSW BOS in cahoots with the free-hungry tertiary system in this state? Grrr!
