Really? Educated people??? The honest answer is NO Obama is not responsible for the dramatically lower cost of gas just as he was never responsible for higher prices of gas. Today, a barrel of Brent crude could be purchased at the bargain basement price of $66.12 a barrel. That is the lowest price since 2009 when Barack Obama moved into the White House. At the same time, West Texas Intermediate crude—the United States benchmark—fell as low as $63.29 a barrel this morning. For the many who refused to deal with the truth—and you know very well who you are— which is that President Obama was simply not responsible when the price of a gallon of gas would tick upwards during holiday driving periods or at the start of the summer months when refineries would go off-line for maintenance, one might think you would now come forward with peons of praise for the President who has brought oil prices low. And yet…crickets. I do take heart that few have had the temerity to take the word of the economists who see lower prices as an economic problem and blame this on Obama. But you know they want to and are, no doubt, busy looking for some rationale to explain why the President should get the blame when prices go up and down—but no credit when the pricing is more to our liking. When the cost of filling our massive automobile tanks heads south, then, suddenly, the naysayers become all too aware of the non-presidential impacts that actually affect the cost of a barrel of oil in the international market—effects like the oversupply of oil currently being experienced as a result of OPEC choosing not to restrict the amount of oil they are pumping out of the ground, despite the current glut, and the strong US dollar. I understand that those who suffer from Obama Allergy Disorder simply cannot bring themselves to acknowledge that the President had nothing to do with gas prices going up, even though we now have proof positive in the guise of oil prices crashing due to the same factors that, when reversed, are responsible for pushing prices upward. Of course, there will still be no shortage of pundits, politicians and regular folks who will claim that had the President made more drilling leases available on federal lands or laid off the government regulations they claim made it prohibitive for oil companies to develop the land they had already leased, we would not have had to endure higher prices over these past many years.
