Really hate to be a killjoy here, but theres been a few - TopicsExpress

Really hate to be a killjoy here, but theres been a few interspecies posts in this group recently. I was wondering whether you think it benefits any of the animals involved? Especially when with predators such as dogs and cats. It only takes a split second for that to go wrong. Do you really want to risk that? Would you risk letting your kid play with a tame lion at a zoo? I used to look at stuff like that and smile at how cute it was. Ive since heard of rats being killed in such interactions. Friendly dogs that have had enough of rats climbing on them. Cats that played a little too rough resulting in serious injuries and sometimes death. These people knew their pets.. They knew theyd never hurt each other.. But they did. And a rat died, for the expense of a cute photo? Im really sorry to be the party pooper but it needed to be said. Look up inter species gone wrong See for yourself how stupid and risky it is, when is it really needed? And I know Ill probably get a ton of comments, so I would also like to let you know Ive had first hand experience. I let my dog interact with my rats for a whole year when I had just four. One day she sat on one. Accidentally. I was right there. She almost broke his leg, and that was just accidentally. I stopped interspecies then. Because, say the boys were playing and she joined in.. Shes bigger and could accidentally do damage. Or even if they jumped on her and she snapped. Different species also have different ways of communicating, this is why small dogs can play and live with bigger dogs, because they communicate the same way. Rats communicate different to dogs and cats, resulting in mixed signals which could be dangerous if the dog is having a bad day. Just think, and be responsible.
