Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, Amazing Grace, is one of the giants of computer programming. She wrote the first compiler in 1952 when computers were huge banks of vacuum tubes that took up an entire floor. The first computer bug was a moth fried in one of the banks! In 1959, she began working on the computer language now known as COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language). I saw a videotaped lecture by Adm.
