Reason #712 for why I love my school. Fellow teacher Randy Block - TopicsExpress

Reason #712 for why I love my school. Fellow teacher Randy Block is teaching the Vietnam War to his juniors. Today, he read John Childresss essay about Pete Segundo, 66, to his class, the essay I cite in my blog. When he finished, he said, you could hear a pin drop. One of the girls asked Mr. Block if she could make a poster. It would have the photo of Pete and his 65-66 AGHS varsity baseball teammates, and it would say only this: Think about Pete. And Mr. Block will post that young ladys poster in the front of his classroom, and so Pete Sprule Segundo will not be forgotten. AGHS has its share of knuckleheads--so do Exxon and the United States government--but the majority of our kids are much more like that young woman who wants to make the poster. And so we are doubly blessed, both by Pete and by a generation who doesnt want to let go of a 22-year-old, one with so much promise, who died nearly thirty years before they were born.
