Reason for the Season: the Third week of Advent. Remembering the reason why God gave us Christmas - His Love and Mercy. God loved us all so much he gave His only Son to live on earth, to teach us how to live, to suffer and die a horrible death and to be Resurrected so that all who believe can be saved from dying in sin and receive eternal life in heaven with God. There are so many places where you can find this Christo-centric theme in contemporary culture. One of my favs is in very popular film called the Shawshank Redemption. I love the clip at the end of the movie where Red, (Morgan Freemans character), overcomes the prison of his own fears, guilt about past sins and hopelessness to take up his friend Andys invite, (the Christ-like charactor in the film), to join him in a place where the Pacific has no memory of the past, (heaven). I think thats a great analogy for Salvation. If we accept Jesus as Christ, our personal Saviour, and leave our old lives of sin, anxiety, fear and doubt behind, we get to join God in heaven, a place with no memory of the past, a place where all our slates are wiped clean, a place in the warmth of the Son of God where true living can begin. God will never force us to accept Jesus, and all that the Word taught us and asked of us, we are given free will to choose how to live our lives.
