Recap of games from April 16th to May 1st: May 1st, 2014 Bexley, OH Cardinal offense too much for Hilliard Bradley The St. Charles Cardinals jumped out to an early lead on Hilliard Bradley and captured a 10-1 victory on Thursday at St Charles. The game was decided quickly as the St. Charles Cardinals exerted their will early with eight runs in the first three innings. An RBI single by Charlie Kolp, a wild pitch, an RBI double by Ryan Bailey, and a two-run double by Matt Martin during the first inning and an RBI triple by Ryan, a sacrifice fly by Andrew Fenlon, and an RBI double by Jacob Moehrman in the second inning supplied the early offense for the St. Charles Cardinals . Bailey put himself in scoring position with three extra-base hits for the St. Charles Cardinals . Nick Pappa was a workhorse on the bump, earning his 3rd win for the Cardinals. Pappa pitched six innings and allowed no earned runs, five hits and three walks while striking out three. The St. Charles Cardinals s Jacob Weikert, Ryan Bailey, Matt Martin and Matt Cooke combined for 11 hits and five RBIs. Davis took the loss for Hilliard Bradley. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed five runs. The St. Charles Cardinals scored three runs of their own in the second. April 29th, 2014 Columbus, OH Cardinals lose 13-3 to Bishop Watterson This just wasn’t St Charles’ day. Bishop Watterson never trailed after scoring eight runs in the first on a two-run double by Janning, an error, and an RBI single by Janning. After pushing across three runs in the top of the second, the St. Charles Cardinals faced just an 8-3 deficit. An RBI single by Matt Cooke and a two-run double by Charlie Kolp set off the St. Charles Cardinals rally. Finally, Slavik got Andrew Fenlon to ground out to end the threat. Two of the St. Charles Cardinals s runs were scored thanks to timely hitting by Kolp, who singled in the first inning and doubled in the second inning. Bishop Watterson increased its lead with four runs in the third. Janning started the inning with a double, bringing home Stotler. That was followed up by Diorios single, bringing home Janning and Bolton. Slavik recorded the win for Bishop Watterson. He allowed three runs over five innings. Slavik struck out three, walked four and gave up five hits. Bishop Wattersons Stotler, Janning, Diorio and Bolton combined for 10 hits and eight RBIs. April 26th, 2014 Canal Winchester, OH Game 2 Cardinals take out Westland with help from Bailey, 3-0 Ryan Bailey went 1-1, doubling in the second and leading the Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over Westland on Saturday at Canal Winchester. Trey Willard got it done on the bump. He pitched two shutout innings. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered two hits, on the way to his 5th win on the season. Matt Cooke shut down Westland while on the hill. Westland managed just one hit off the Cardinal reliever, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his two innings of work. Dyer took the loss for Westland. He lasted just 5 1/3 innings, walked five, struck out one, and allowed three runs. April 26th, 2014 Canal Winchester, OH Game 1 Sixth-inning rally sparks blowout win for the Cardinals, 11-5 A six-run explosion in the sixth inning hoisted the St. Charles Cardinals to an 11-5 win in seven innings over Canal Winchester at Canal Winchester on Saturday. The Cardinals scored in the sixth on a two-run double by Charlie Kolp, a two-run double by Andrew Fenlon, an RBI single by Trey Willard, and an RBI double by Erik Heiden. Kolp pushed the Cardinals ahead, in the sixth inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. Nick Pappa was hit by a pitch to get on base in the sixth. He then went from second to third on a single by Sam Gabel. Kolp racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Cardinals . Jacob Myers got his 4th win, in as many appearances, in relief for the Cardinals. Myers pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed one run and struck out four. Trace was the games losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed four runs. In the top of the first, St. Charles grabbed an early 3-0 lead. Jacob Weikert got things going for the St. Charles Cardinals with a single. Fenlon singled, bringing home Matt Cooke. The scoreboard lit up again for the Cardinals when Weikert scored on an RBI single by Heiden and Fenlon scored on a wild pitch. The Cardinals scored one run in the fourth inning, followed up with one more in the seventh. In the fourth, the Cardinals scored on a wild pitch, plating Ryan Bailey. Canal Winchester answered the St. Charles Cardinals s top inning with three runs of its own in the fourth. Canal Winchester scored on an RBI single by Kaib and a two-run single by Stanley. April 23rd, 2014 Myrtle Beach, SC Cardinals upset nationally ranked St. Augustine Prep, NJ 6-3 Sam Gabel brought home the go-ahead run to give the St. Charles Cardinals the lead in the sixth inning, as the St. Charles Cardinals hung on to beat (#16) St. Augustine Prep, NJ 6-3 on Wednesday. Erik Heiden did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Cardinals, reaching base three times, scoring one run, one RBI, singling in the fifth and sixth innings. Tommy Ryan earned his 2nd win for the Cardinals, behind his first complete game. Ryan allowed three runs over seven innings. He struck out one, walked four and surrendered eight hits. Warren was charged with the loss. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked six, struck out six, and allowed two runs. The bottom of the first saw St. Augustine Prep, NJ take an early lead, 2-0. Tolbert got things going for St. Augustine Prep, NJ with a single. St. Augustine Prep, NJ added more runs when Carew scored on an RBI single by Sadreameli. The Cardinals scored two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. April 22nd, 2014 Myrtle Beach, SC Game 2 Despite Pappas gem, Cardinals lose 1-0 to Highland, NJ Nick Pappa allowed just one run on Tuesday at Crosley Field, but the St. Charles Cardinals couldnt get the offense going in a 1-0 defeat to Highland, NJ. Highland, NJs lineup had no answer for Nick Pappa. Highland, NJ managed just two hits off of Pappa, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out five during his six innings of work. Scafioi got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He tossed 5 1/3 innings of shutout ball. Scafioi struck out six, walked five and gave up four hits. Nick Pappa was charged with the loss. Highland, NJ scored its only run of the game on a groundout by Scafioi in the second inning April 22nd, 2014 Myrtle Beach, SC Game 1 Fifth-inning rally sparks Cardinals blowout win A seven-run explosion in the fifth inning spurred St. Charles to a 10-0 win in five innings over Andrew, SC at Griffith Field on Tuesday. Matt Cooke had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits, including a triple in the first, followed by a walk off, inside the park homerun in the fifth to seal the run rule. Trey Willard put together another great outing. Andrew, SC managed just one hit off the Cardinals ace. Willard hurled his 3rd complete game, allowing no earned runs, no walks and struck out three, on his way to his 4th win on the season. The Cardinal’s offense was lead by Willard, Nick Pappa, Jacob Weikert and Matt Cooke, who combined for six hits and six RBIs. Duncan was the games losing pitcher. He lasted just 4 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed five runs. The Cardinals went up for good in the fourth, scoring three runs on an error and two singles. April 21st, 2014 Myrtle Beach, SC Cardinals top East Lincoln, NC 3-2 in dramatic fashion St. Charles and East Lincoln exchanged leads five times Monday night at Griffith Field, but in the end the Cardinals pulled out a 3-2 win in seven innings. The Cardinals finally managed to grab the lead after a strong seventh inning. Ryan Bailey was hit by pitch scoring Alex Macias to give the Cardinals the lead for good. Jacob Weikert got a hit in each of his two at bats, singling in both the first and fourth innings. April 16th, 2014 Cardinals fall to Hawks 7-6 Ryan Bailey did all he could to give the St. Charles Cardinals a boost, but it wasnt enough to get past Bishop Hartley, as the St. Charles Cardinals lost 7-6 in seven innings at Bishop Hartley on Wednesday. Ryan did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Cardinals, reaching base three times, doubling in the sixth inning. Gilliland got the win for Bishop Hartley, allowing three runs over three innings. Gilliland struck out three, walked four and gave up four hits.
