Recent happenings: 1. got a different power chair: front-wheel drive. its just on a test-drive basis to see if i want one like it at home. advantage: more ground clearance for being out in yard. Disadv: driving it is a lot like backing up the camper all day. i think ill get the hang of it, tho. 2. more hand-muscle tests (this is how left pinkie and index finger movement were discovered). heres what OT found: new fingers that BEND: tip of right index finger right index finger (these require 2 diff muscle movements) tip of right thumb tip of right middle finger all left fingers now extending: right and left thumbs 3. stood in standing frame 7 min. 1st time ive been able to get all the way up w/o nausea or light-headedness. went at small intervals, rising from sitting to standing over about 20 min. picture of a standing frame attached. the goal is to stand in the frame for 20 min; reaching that level of endurance would qualify me to use the Lokomat (described below). LOKOMAT ROBOTIC WALKING The Lokomat is a robotic locomotor training system that utilizes a body weight supported harness system over a treadmill to assist individuals in achieving a walking pattern who have very little leg movement. The goal with this system is to optimize recovery through repetitive, intensive, customized gait therapy while providing real time feedback for gait adjustments. The Lokomat also provides biofeedback and augmented feedback to create a motivating environment that will result in increased motor activation while stepping on a treadmill.
