Recently, Department of Public Safety Police received a new look sporting newly designed vehicle decals while on patrol around the LSP Headquarters and state buildings. DPS Police Officers are an essential part of the Department of Public Safety providing security at the Louisiana State Police Headquarters Compound, the State Capitol, and all state facilities located outside of the Capitol Complex including facilities located in New Orleans, Lafayette, Alexandria, Shreveport, and Monroe. In addition, DPS Officers also comprise the Department of Public Safety Weights and Standards Unit. The primary function of the Weights and Standards police force is the protection of the motoring public and the highway infrastructures of the state of Louisiana. This is accomplished by ensuring that commercial vehicle traffic is in compliance with statutory provisions of laws regulating weight, size, and registration.
