Recently, I heard Jack Batts describe many of us in Lauderdale - TopicsExpress

Recently, I heard Jack Batts describe many of us in Lauderdale County, Alabama to a T. He mentioned that many of us live in the country and have farms or acreage that we enjoy spending time on. He said, we do this because we are trying to preserve a way of life for our sons and daughters and for our local youth. No one can count the thousands and maybe tens of thousands of dollars that you have spent to protect this way of life. Many of you have jobs off the farm, but you come home and often feed cattle after dark. You spend your weekends mending fences or taking care of animals. You may crawl up on top of the barn that was built by your grandad to nail down a piece of tin. You look at the calendar and rejoice when daylight savings time comes because that means now you have more daylight hours to do even more of this stuff! And you DO ALL THIS BECAUSE YOU ARE TRYING TO HANG ONTO SOMETHING --- A WAY OF LIFE THAT HAS BEEN PASSED DOWN TO YOU. All of us who live in and appreciate the rural way of life, whether we have livestock or not, need to unite to protect our way of life. Do you own cattle? Horses? Goats? Maybe you are a landowner who doesnt own livestock? Perhaps you just enjoy living the rural life? If you are a part of any of these, please consider joining the Alabama Cattlemens Association. Lauderdale County Cattlemens Association is a strong countywide force of cattlemen, landowners, businessmen, people who love the country way of life, and people who love beef! You dont have to own cows to join! Our association does lots to support landowners rights along with supporting beef producers. We have a fabulous yearly steak banquet that is worth your membership dues in itself, not to mention the scholarships we offer, the lobbying done at the state level for your protection and for the enhancement of the beef industry, promotion of beef, and watching out for current trends and challenges coming down the pike for beef producers, landowners, and our rural way of life. The annual dues are $30 and this gets you two free tickets to our annual steak banquet (which in itself is worth the $30!), invitations to the cattlemens annual field day and hamburger lunch, invitations to the annual cattlemens picnic and supper, invitations to the annual cattlemens sponsored county heifer show and supper, and various educational activities offered by the cattlemens association in Lauderdale County. You also receive a monthly issue of the Alabama Cattleman magazine (a very high quality magazine highlighting the beef industry and beef news in the state of Alabama). You also become part of a 11,000+ member organization in the state of Alabama that serves as a watchdog for protecting landowners rights in the state of Alabama. You will have representation in Montgomery and in Washington, D.C. Your children and grandchildren will be eligible to compete for numerous scholarships offered by the state cattlemen and by the Lauderdale County Cattlemen! And you get to hang out with lots of cool people! Last year, Lauderdale County Cattlemens Association numbered 460+ members! This is a great representation of folks who love the rural lifestyle.
