Recently, a few people have asked about negative punishment causing too much frustration. For instance, if you train a dog to be calm for greeting by rewarding sitting and remove rewards if the dog jumps; is that just too frustrating? Consider the following: 1. What technique and pre-training factors would make it more frustrating vs less frustrating?. 2. If you don’t use negative punishment to ensure the dog doesnt get rewarded for the unwanted behavior, what will you use instead? Will that technique be faster? Slower? And by how much?
