Recently acquired a good size group of war date letters of the Wilson family of Rockbridge /Lexington Va ..Rough shape but some nice content in the process of translating them into type ...one fellow is John Thomas Wilson of the 25th Virginia Infantry and a couple fragmented letters from William Wilson of the Rockbridge Artillery ....I ran into this little interesting note and cant seem to match the handwriting first assumption is maybe a telegraph written out ...here goes ........(Sherman and Doubledays Battery taken with 65 pieces of Artillery 20,000 stand of arms already in Richmond &2 congressman ...All the powder shell balls wagons 7 all the baggage connected with the army Scotts carriage together with his applelets &name on them .Property worth 2 million five hundred thousand dollars .Of 8,000 regulars 1/2 were cut to pieces .Zouaves of 1200only two hundred left .Pursued by 7,000 horseman 3,000 returned at 9o,c 500 prisoners & 4,000 not returned yet .Zouaves lay around Shermans battery 3or4 on top of one another.). ...I believe this is obviously first Manasas .....any thoughts or input ??
