Recently my 4 year old granddaughter, Malayai, was playing with some of her cousins, and I overheard her referring to the terms Friendly Bad Guy and Mean Bad Guy. I was curious so I asked her what was the difference? She explained to me that a friendly bad guy pretends to be your friend but hes really a bad guy. A mean bad guy doesnt pretend to be your friend, hes just mean all the time. Now, of course I thought about this in spiritual terms. A friendly bad guy would be a very hypocritical person who smiles in your face while stabbing you in the back all along. This person can be found in or out of the church. On the other hand, a mean bad guy doesnt even pretend to like you. That would plainly represent a person who is just mean and hateful, and doesnt care who knows it. And yes, unfortunately you can find him in or out of the church, as well. What knowledge, I thought, has God bestowed upon this child! I may have many titles, but one thing I absolutely refuse to be is a hypocrite. And heres why: Matthew 23:27 KJV [27] Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead mens bones, and of all uncleanness. Sometimes it seems like the hypocrites in the church get the most accolades. And so what if they do? Psalm 37:1-5 KJV [1] Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. [2] For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. [3] Trust in the Lord , and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. [4] Delight thyself also in the Lord ; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. [5] Commit thy way unto the Lord ; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And remember this: Psalm 37:16 KJV [16] A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. So, If youre still going to church because of style, tradition, force of habit, looking for a mate, etc., those are all the wrong reasons. Unless you truly have the spirit of God on the inside of you, and you are earnestly going to gain more spiritual knowledge, youre just holding a seat down. Now, by all means, please dont stop going to church, but make sure that youre going for the right reasons, so you wont just turn into a friendly bad guy. 2 Peter 1:10 KJV [10] Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.. Remember: theres strength in unity. May grace, love, peace and mercy be multiplied unto you all.
