Recently, someone who Id classify as a christian skeptic. Not to imply they are a christian but a non-believer, whos curiosity both intrigues and inspires me, asked me this question. What does it mean to be REBORN? And I amazingly without thinking said, the word reborn in a christian sense means, to become changed from within which in turn causes outward changes in a persons thinking, character and behavior. I further explained, once a person understands Jesus; who He was, what He was, what He did and why He did it, they are forced to look and see themselves as they really are. They become aware of sin and the seperation it causes between God and themselves. They see that this seperation is the penalty justly earned due to sin. They understand that God being completly righteous CANNOT TOLERATE or be company to unrighteousness. This sin MUST be paid for, each soul must be held accountable for it actions. But, I tell them, Jesus, being made man, lived a perfect sinnless life, never deserving of punishment or seperation, choose to sacrifice His just reward as an offering to pay for the sin of others. That through Him sinnful mans debt can be paid in full, and we can recieve the good grace which Jesus earned for Himself. Once a person realizes all this and in his inner heart, his deepest yearning is to recieve this grace, to be made right with God. He then asks through prayer for Jesus to save him from damnable sin and puts his trust in His saving grace to save him. Well, once this takes place that person, becomes REBORN. This means he is changed from the inside out. He is like a new person, the thoughts and ways he use to think and do become undesirable, once he realizies what he has recieved he sees the folly of his old ways. He sees sin as sin, and will begin to struggle against the ways of the old man. This is the constant battle of a christian, and it lasts untill his death. A SAVED CHRISTIAN WILL ALWAYS BE TEMPTED TO COMMITE SIN, BUT IN DENYING HIMSELF THE MOMENTARY SATISIFACTION OF SUCH THOUGHTS OR ACTIONS, HE BECOMES FREE FROM THE SLAVERY OF EVIL DESIRES. HE IS REBORN, A NEW MAN...
