Recently, there have been a few posts about loupes and loupe lights. I thought I would share my thoughts. I have owned a pair of x4.0 EyeMagPro loupes on a hand band for over 2 years. Recently, John Woods loaned me the new Zeiss EyeMagPro 2 light. The loupes on the hand band carry the weight effortlessly, never been a strain. They are comfortable to wear all day. Flipping the lens is simple. I’ve had various loupe lights in the past, both expensive, mid range and very cheap; they have all failed to deliver. This has been due the power of the lamp, weight of battery amongst other points. The length of charge has always been an issue; the lamp always died at the most inconvenient time, either a multiple prep case or a composite build up. Loupes without a light are half a pair loupes. The Zeiss gives you 2 batteries, along with a quick charger; they are removable from the carrier. Also, the battery gives you a battery life indicator, green, amber and red. So it couldn’t be simpler. No more dead batteries. The batteries are very light, compared to my previous lights. The lead clips into the handset, so it doesn’t trail asking to catch the nearest drawer handle. The light itself gives a uniform brightness throughout the entire image; it has a 3-stage intensity. There is a resin orange filter, which easily attaches to the lamp and can be in adjusted simply. All in all, trial the Zeiss loupes and loupe light before you purchase. I tried them all before I got the EyeMagPro. Buy once, buy quality.
