Recipe: Kala Chana Sabzi Kala chana refers to black chickpeas which are an extremely healthy and tasty options for your meals. Kala chana sabzi recipe is a perfect option if you want to use the healthy chickpeas in your diet. Kala chana sabzi recipe is Punjabi in origin. This dish is prepared using black chickpeas which are soaked overnight and then cooked with a unique and fragrant blend of spices. This vegetarian recipe can be prepared without much hassle and the taste will surely make your mouth water. Serves: 3-4 Preparation time: 6 hours Cooking time: 20 minutes Ingredients Kala chana (black chickpeas)- 1 cup Onions- 2 (chopped) Tomatoes- 2 (pureed) Ginger-garlic paste- 1tbsp Cumin seeds- 1tsp Coriander powder- 1tsp Cumin powder- 1tsp Dry mango powder- 1tsp Hing (asafoetida)- a pinch Red chilli powder- 1tsp Turmeric powder- 1tsp Salt- as per taste Garam masala powder- 1tsp Oil- 2tbsp Water- 3 cups Procedure Soak the kala chana overnight or atleast for 6 hours. After that, drain the excess water and pressure cook the kala chana with three cups of water and salt for 3-4 whistles. Once done, remove the cooker from the flame and keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and hing. Once the seeds start spluttering, add chopped onions and cook for about 5 minutes on medium flame. Add ginger-garlic paste and fry for 2 minutes. Now add the tomato puree, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt, dry mango powder and cook for about 7-8 minutes. Now add the boiled chickpeas to the pan and cook for 5-6 minutes. Add garam masala and mix well. Once done, switch off the flame and serve. Your kala chana sabzi recipe is ready to be served. Enjoy with steamed rice or hot parathas.
