Recomandarea de lectură a zilei (în strictă legătură cu anunțul de mai jos), cu un citat din carte: Sachs proposes a new ‘Marshall Plan’, based on an African Green Revolution, which will reproduce the alleged successes of the Green Revolutions in Mexico and India, in which large-scale capital-intensive agriculture replaced traditional subsistence farming. Agricultural production will be massively increased, transport infrastructure will be improved, and the continued implementation of ‘traditional market reforms’ will guarantee access to export markets. All of this will be funded by conditional debt relief and a massive time-bound infusion of international aid, after which ‘Africa [will] lift itself up by its bootstraps’, and will begin to ascend the ladder of development unaided. Sachs claims that, if his agenda is followed, extreme poverty can be ended by 2025.
