Record temps are forecast this week November 17, 2014 By NICO SALVATORI (nsalvatori@sungazette) A cold November week is ahead, possibly bringing in record temperatures, but not the kind were used to hearing about. According to Mike Dangelo, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in State College, the Williamsport area might experience record-low high temperatures in the coming days. Before that, though, theres a 100-percent chance of rain today, according to Dangelo. The high temperature is forecast at 41 degrees. Though the skies are expected to clear later in the night, temperatures will drop to the low 20s around that time as a gusty wind sweeps through the region. Those low temperatures will carry over into Tuesday, Dangelo said, threatening to break the record for the lowest high temperature ever recorded in Williamsport. The record for Nov. 18 was set in 1958 when it hit 29 degrees. On Tuesday, 28 degrees is forecast for a high temp. Despite a single-digit wind chill, temperatures are not expected to drop below the coldest temperature on record for that date. The record-low high on Wednesday, recorded in 1951, is 31 degrees. That same temperature is projected for this Wednesday, which will be mostly sunny. Thursday is projected to be mostly cloudy with low temperatures in the lower 20s and highs in the mid 30s. Friday will be similar but with a slight chance of snow, according to Dangelo.
