Recording artists and athletes who ply their trade outside the army have been dealt a heavy blow by the Botswana Defence Force savingram prohibiting them from engaging in personal businesses. The savingram that was signed by the BDF Commander, Lieutenant General Gaolathe Galebotswe instructs all BDF soldiers not to go into any business apart from rearing cattle. Recording and performing artists as well as soldiers that participate in sporting activities outside the BDF have also been instructed to stop with immediate effect. Recording artists were further instructed to remove their CDs from distributers and shops. The move means the likes of Stanley Tsolope of Mochudi Centre Chiefs will not be allowed to play for the kgatleng team anymore. The move means that many accomplished artists such as Jazz Mate, Lister Boleseng, Maghebula, Sylvester, Dikakapa, Stix Rakhiba and more will no longer perform or record any new album. BDF members who spoke on condition of anonymity said that they will be left with no choice but to resign from the army.
